They seem to be one of those companies that don't care about looking after their existing customers as long as their blanketing press advertising generates more new customers than those that take the effort to move away. Personally I think the best method is the reverse, spend the time looking after your existing customers and then you don't have to spend so much on advertising as those existing customers will work as your marketing/sales force in recomendations. Maybe that's just me. |

rather than complain here about the level of support at FH, why dont you read the email they sent you, you probably had a script that was spanking the pants off the server (whether it was your script to clone the ODP with a stack of XMLHTTP requests being indexed by google - yes i've seen it happen - or whatever) also read up on the XMLHTTP version, the answer is in his email, theres known issues with the version you are using, so use the latest version which is known to be more stable. thats really a no brainer, if your domain was moved you would have had a warning, if you did nothing to fix it then you cant really complain! the other way to look at this is, your site was having enough of an impact on the server to warrant it being manually moved to another server, i cant see someone wasting the time to do that for nothing, so whatever you were doing was bad enough to get it moved and you suspended (did you start shouting at support when you phoned? cmon admit it). and as for "Daniel's Test Script", you dont want to leave that on your site for long as it can be a liability if the wrong person found it, its a test script uploaded by support (as the name implies), if you actually had a look at what it does then you will probably remember that call to support where they uploaded it. also dont bother emailing daniel.morritt@fasthosts.co.uk, he wont reply and i'd be 99.99% sure it wasnt him that uploaded it to your site! FH are a decent cheap hosting company, sure you pay for addons, but the "unlimited" hosting (yeah you can get away with a few gigs here and there, dont be stupid though), cgi and php ... how many of you have sites upwards of a gig? or use it for your "non web" content? a couple of backups here, there ... a few mp3's while your at it... you can get away with a lot through FH, but you cant take the piss. think about how you would feel if you sold a customer hosting and email and they started pushing the limits, uploading backups, 30gig of dvd rips etc. and as for triggers on shared sql server ... yeah! like that wont bring it to its knees! can you really trust every person on that server not to take advantage (and to know what they are doing!) and have triggers running every 5 mins? they try and enforce some rules to keep the servers stable and people complain, they have nice relaxed rules and you take advantage, damned if you do, damned if you dont! |
