Should I host in the uk?
My long-time canadian hosting has recently become a joke of endless failed connections and downtime, despite being told the server hasn't gone down in the last 2 months. I have no idea whether there is a weak link outside their control or whether their just plain lying to me, but either way I'm going to move host cos it's really starting to piss me off! I've narrowed it down either pipeten (sheffield) or mediatemple (california). Both offer the same services but mediatemple is almost half the price (exchange rate and all that!). In any of your experience is there are uptime benefit of hosting in the uk and is it worth the extra cash??? |

I wouldn't make a choice just because you are told it is cheaper in the US. Rule out companies by comparing their attributes and weakenesses not their locality. I get a wicked deal from a UK company on my reseller account - my mate uses an Indian company and she rants about how cheap/efficient they are - there are some good sites that review and compare hosting companies. Do a bit of digging and ask the right questions. |

we've been with 4 different hosts in the 4 weeks we've had a site live, and to be honest my opinion is that pretty much most of them are a joke. We tried 2 US hosting companies, including Globat, which was absolutely shocking.... completely incompetent tech support who knew less than I do, and I'm a web designer, not a 'techie'. Recently been with Pipex in the UK, which we opted for as their broadband service was wicked. Our shared hosting account went down loads of times, and then finally went down completely for 2 days while they rebuilt the server. We have just moved to their VPS, which they wouldn't help me with (I had to sign up for it myself and set it all up), and thats been pretty damn solid.... although I'm yet to say I'm impressed! |

If you are looking for cheap UK reseller I have yet to find better than Heart Internet - Really good support, excellent accounts billing, have a 100% uptime disaster plan, bascially amazing features for the cash. Course this is only viable if you can afford a reseller - but if you have say; 10 sites, it's definitely worth considering. (no affiliation) I also use Rackspace and Media Temple and have been very pleased with them too... "If your basket breaks remember to have another to catch the eggs" |

I think you should check for 24/7 tech support, 24/7 phone and chat support too along with reliable and reputed hosting and nice features provided by hosting service providers. IMO, you should go through some more popular forum reviews and also visit to go through reviews at webhostingunleashed.com. IMO, lycos.com, eukhost.com, and fasthosts.com are some of the good and reliable UK hosting. |

lycos are a search engine who offer a hosting service - definately not their core business... eukhost.com appear to be a budget provider - check out comments http://www.forum2.co.uk/forums/showt...hlight=eukhost (backups/etc not provided etc...) fasthosts can be expensive but have their own DC, better deals without the hidden charges can be got with some redbus providers. Checkout www.webhostchat.co.uk for some good UK providers. |
