advice much appreciated

I know nothing about creating a website. However, I am boldy going forward with the help of the 'webdesign for dummies' book and a whole lot of time on my hands.
I need to create a site that is primarily a sortable database. there is no selling of goods. it's just information. but i will need to have roughly 200 subscribers. The reason for the subscribers is because the whole point of this database is that my colleagues and i can UPDATE our availability ad nausium and have links to our own websites where our reels and resumes will be available to prospective employers.

the reason i'm doing this is because there are many editors like myself sitting around waiting for the phone to ring and i'm sick of mailing out my reel - i'm looking to fascilitate the whole process.

Any advice on how much gig space I'll need? There will be no playing of media on my site - just links to where they can find the reels. Any advice on any aspect of this endeavor would be much appreciated - who'd be a good host, etc. THANKS!!!!
