dedicated server - anyone fancy sharing one?

Does anyone (or two, three etc.) people fancy sharing a dedicated server? I'm looking at a Windows server, as I do a lot of asp development and am getting into doing some asp.net work also. There's a few hosts I've got in mind, all at around the 80 - 100 a month mark. So if say 4 people were interested, it'd make good cheap hosting for loads of sites.

Let us know if you're interested!

Cheers

Well, kind of but not. It serves the purpose of having very few people using the server. I'd rather have 3 or 4 people hosting sites on a server than 100.

Interesting idea and I might be tempted if I had more cash to spare.

Would definitely cut down on server load verses shared.

That and you'd be more free to install whatever software. I'm going to look around and if i see something for the right price then I'll probably go for it, and if anyone does fancy a share in it then they'd be more than welcome.

oli chimed in just before I could speak. A VPS is exactly what you need. My company is actually about to roll out new VPS plans in a week or so. There are a lot of people in the same boat as you, looking for more control and less people on a server. I am not sure about other hosts, but we are looking at around 4-6 VPS accounts per server depending on their size. I think this is a great way to go for ultimate control and price.

transmogrify, we don't currently have any plans to implement windows servers into our VPS offerings. It may be something that we add in the future, but for now we intend to stick with linux/unix based servers. Windows servers are just so expensive and customers still expect the same prices. It is just the usual microsoft nightmare.

That is what we are doing, nice and cheap - hosts our clients, brings in a good amount of revenue... Pays for our weekly lunch meetings.

Not really as a provider you would simply register under the SPLA agreement and then pay monthly for what you use.

Not as expensive as you might think either.....

I understand the process, For a windows server it is about 30-40 dollars more a month than a linux/unix based server.

Would this share be for personal use or for business?

I wonder where did you read about these hosts because today excellent hosts offer unlimited site hosting between $30-$60 a month with .NET support. PM me if you need more info.

I think you misread, hostbreak. Your website advertises dedicated servers at $130-$280 per month...not $30-60...

You must go for alternative solution like VPS on Windows platform to cut down costs as windows servers are highly priced. there are some good VPS providers which will give you a windows VPS for something close to $50 per month. Please take a look at some forums to find the perfect VPS provider.

dehe.com, Invotion.com Develops Windows VPS Solution plan;i think you should talk to them.
