Best software for producing complex signage graphics

Hello DT

I'm interested to get some advice on what programs people are using to do large format signage. I regularly create display suite graphics for architectural developments and often they are quite complex in terms of printing on different surfaces and materials.

At the moment I use indesign and Illustrator to create each element, but I often wonder if an architectural program (or some other program) might be a better way to go? If so what program would that be?

Any thoughts appreciated

Depends but you can't beat Illi IMO. The only reason you'd use autocad or similar is if your contractor/printer/supplier requested files in format — where there might be some 3D element perhaps? For flat sheet I can't see why Illi or ID would be preferred?
