Mister Wong Logo contest: $12,000 in prizes

Are you a web designer, graphic artist or a pixel juggler? Then you should participate in our worldwide "Wong and Only Logo Contest".

Mister Wong is looking for a new mascot and we're giving away $12,000 to find one!

The new mascot can be an abstract form, an alien or even a parrot wearing a bow tie. So let your imagination flow. It can be anything as long as it does not depict any human beings.

All submitted designs will be voted on by Mister Wong users. Every user gets 12 votes. This way everyone gets a say on which design will win – the true web 2.0 democratic way.

Mister Wong users worldwide will choose the top 12. The top 12 designs will then be voted on by our jury to find the top three. From the top three, the Mister Wong Team will choose the winner, who will receive $6,000 and the two runners up will each receive $3,000.

The deadline for submissions is Sep. 8 2007.

If you think you’ve got what it takes to create the new Mister Wong logo, then visit our contest page: mister-wong.com/contest/index.php?lg=en

There are lots of typography-only logos in the submissions. I guess they didn't read the rules. Pity. I only do typographical logos myself, so I can't draw your new mascot. Too bad!

I've been tempted by this for a while, but I'm too lazy to do anything about it.

Hi Steveb,

We used the word "mascot" in the rules, but it can actually be anything. It can have legs, arms, wings, etc, but it doesn´t mean that you can´t submit a symbol. We´re just looking for something to place next to the "Mister Wong" logotype. We´d love to see some other solutions that are not character based as well.

So, they've picked the 3 finalists (who get $3,000 each) and none of them have stuck to the brief. All the designs picked apparently fall outside the rules. Those that stuck to the brief seem pretty pissed off from the blog comments.

They've chosen the winning logo from the 3 finalists, bastardized it, corporatized it, and in the process managed suck any remaining character or life from it.

$12,000 for this. Money well spent? It's alright I suppose, nothing more, nothing less. At least they got a fair amount of publiclity.
