best to just hire someone if you want a good design. This kind of thing never ends well...

this kind of thing really pisses me off.

I have a competition for someone to design and build my house, the best architect and building contractor will get a new motorbike and I will personally publicise their work with a banner on the front of said house.

Anyone?? Anyone at all? No?

i think it's a smart idea and one i most likely would have jumped at when i was starting out. maybe they're pushing their luck with "new professionals" but i'd have thought a student would be keen to get some exposure on a 'real' project. looking at the specs they're asking a lot for someone still learning the ropes though. this forum does seem to attract a lot of scam artists, tyre-kickers, free-loading money-for-nothing scrooges, interweb illiterate arthur-daley type hustlers & cheapskates but this one i'd have to give a big maybe they should have posted in competitions though...?

Hi There dt Users,

Just wanted to say thanks for the feeback and no offence meant.

As Skyrocket pointed out, we are a non-profit volunteer organisation. And like most volunteer organisations we have very limited funding. However we have had in the past and are currently running a number of really great and well recognised projects.

We are trying to establish contact with young designers looking for exposure as we have work that comes up regularly with these various projects.

Joining this forum was just one avenue we have persued in an attempt to get in touch with these potential volunteers or competition participants (particularly youth).

If you have any suggestions on how we could better go about this we would definetly appreciate your tips.

cheers

alex at Vibewire.

I think this is a great idea, im new to web design and at the moment doing a course and i seem to be picking it up altho my head feels like exploading with new information at the moment im really enjoying it.

This gives you something to design and and at the end you could get a great reward and if not at least you have had some practice.

Hey smity_873

Thanks for your comment! This is exactly the sort of response we were trying to generate through the competition.

We would definitely encourage you to enter the comp. Or if you would like to be on the mailing list for future design briefs and comps just visit our site and send in your details!

Thanks for the support.

Website Design Competition

We are going to be launching a website design competition, with a similar theme. The competition is aimed at finding and promoting new talent, with a prize for the best new talent.

Established designers can enter if they want, but it will be just for kudos, and some feedback on your sites.

The url will be www(dot)website-design-competition(dot)com

The site is not yet build, but there is some initial info, and the entry form works if you want to get in early.
