Gaining clients for website design

Hi

First off, hello.

Now that's out of the way :P

Not sure if this is posted in the correct forum, but anyway...

I "own" a web design business, Flash Design Websites. We are based in Tenerife, and have been round the majority of places here asking if they would need a websites. We had some positive responses, and some that are still ongoing, however, the work is running a little dry now, as you can imagine. I am ideally looking for clients from all around the world, but have no idea how to begin advertising...do i spam on a million and one forums? Do I sign up to mailing lists that allow nothing more than more spam into my inbox? Or do I randomly pick telephone numbers off of company websites and ring them to say their site sucks, and I could do a lot better

Anyone that could point me in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Send a message via MSN to pat
I heard somewhere that begging for work from companies was the worst way. Sort some targeted e-flyers or sommat.

Some SEO would'nt harm either. That would mean however dropping part of the flash on your website.

Exactly, I searched Google for the phrase "flash design websites" and your site didn't show up until the 5th page - and it's commonly known that people searching Google rarely go past the first 3 result pages.

Here's some other tactics -

Newspaper/magazine ads
Online advertising
Networking (handing out business cards, meeting people who know people)

Word of mouth is still the best form of advertising as I understand it.

This is a terrible idea. First, insulting people will never get you a job and, second, your site doesn't look unique at all - it looks like a template to me - full of stock images and whatnot.
