The Business
So, in about a year or so, I'm going to be looking for a web design job on the east coast. Probably Philadelphia. Anyway, I've done some browsing on the normal job/career sites and found plenty of entries with adequate salaries. However, I wonder if you all could share some resources for finding jobs (full-time, not freelance) and "getting into the business". I'm currently working (or have planned) several freelance projects, which will help build my portfolio. What I'm looking for are...
I've got most of this stuff down in terms of fine art, since that's what my degree's in, but not for web-related work. Also, looking particularly for standards-based resources - I don't want to spend all my time mastering XHTML/CSS/DOM and all that only to get a job making tag soup with FrontPage. Thanks in advance! Much appreciated. Sorry to hear about the mystery virus. I give it 10 thumbs down. Also, if anyone has links re: other cities, I'll take those too - Washington, Baltimore, NYC, Boston - any of 'em. I want to keep my options open - Philly would be easiest, though, since I know the city already. |

Finished formatting and installing windoze and me lappy is still moving like a stale fart. 15 million updates to go till I can plug in my external drive and access my bookmarks :-/ There are at least 3 agencies on Market St. alone and a few within 10 miles of Philly either side. |

Scanning my external drive for viruses now at a pathetically slow rate. Managed to speed things up locally a bit though with some updates, bios flashing and the like. Here are some agencies which I can remember... www.creativegroup.com - Based on Market St. most of their work is in NJ but they have some local stuff. www.devonconsulting.com - 20 minutes outside of Philly. Worth registering with but haven't got too many hopes for them. www.matrixresources.com - Based all over with nearest offices being in Wilmington, Delaware. Avoid Jeff Wible as he is a complete timewaster - don't know about the rest of the staff. www.bossstaffing.com - Just outside Philly in Bala Cynwyd - require that you live in Philly before they'll add you to their list. They also deal with NJ, DC, VA and MD through their other offices. More to follow later. Don't forget to buy me a beer or nine if you get a job through these |

You can count on it. 'course I'll have to move to Philly first. I actually saw a job through the Creative Group listed at CareerBuilder. I'll keep my eyes open and start saving my current income. |
