Online Payment for minors?

To be quite blunt, I'm sixteen year old American, and I don't know how to get money online. You have to be older for PayPal, right?

Any other suggestions?

Use your parent's credit/debit card and pay them back in cash.

I'd hate to be too young to handle my own paypal and online purchases *shudders*

Y'know, I'm not entirely sure. I suppose our society deems anyone younger to be unable to handle money safely and effectively - although you can say the same for a lot of older people!

It might be the case that you're not allowed to have credit until you're 18, but I'm pretty sure you'd be able to have a debit card

- Or do you mean "receive money online"?

Hell, I had a merchant account setup so i took in online payments for e-commerce site when I was 15. I'm sure you can find a way.

I don't know what the age limit is for Paypal, I feel like if you have a debit card you should be able to use it, but maybe that's not the case.

You will be able to open a personal paypal account. Not too sure about a "business" account though.

Google checkout - may be an option aswell.

I went to the bank to open up a business account about two weeks ago, and they told us we had to be over 18. Dunno if that applies everywhere though.

I guarantee you it's not like that everywhere. It's entirely dependent on what country you are in, which isn't very clear with either you or Tim.

The world isn't one big country mate. Do you even know what country he's in? What country are you even in?

What on earth? How did you at all think this is what he was inferring.

He was merely pointing out different countries have different laws. So trying to make any assumptions without anyone stating where they're from is a bit unhelpful.

The kid posting this thread is American, you're Irish - which isn't actually stated anywhere, and Tim is also American which isn't stated anywhere but on his site.

I was in a very similar situation.

Get your parents to open a checking account with you, and then use that to send and receive money.

It's not the most professional, but at 16 you aren't going to need a business account or anything. Avoid Paypal if you can.
