It says “Phil Jones” on the top line.

Underneath that is his job title: “Plumber”.

It’s great because it tells me everything I need to know about what he does.

He doesn’t try to dress up his chosen line of work by calling himself a “Strategic Pipeline Analyst” or an “Aqueous Substance Manager”.

He does what it says on the tin.

Doesn't say anything about Managing Director, though.
I can't decide if that's 'too management' or a fine position to a design agency?

funny. when i think about it a job description shoud clearly describe what you spend most of your time doing in a working day.

Mmm. we spend most of our time handling accounts.. so that makes us .... ... Noooooooooooooo.

dont agree -who is he?

Why bother having a pop at a whole industry that has survived quite nicely with predefined roles, titles and career routes?

Hes just another sour cunt who cant make the grade and decides to enlighten us with shit comedy insight.

He has a point, no use calling yourself a creative director unless you direct people, anyway he's not having a go at the roles- just tat a lot of them don't count outside of a design agency

It's point of view and I tend to agree with most of what he is saying. Be clear with your clients about what you do. Which is a fair point.

The sour c*nt replies

I'm glad some of you saw the funny side!

As d*d realised, it wasn't a pop at the whole design industry -- valid and established roles are fine, and I've got nothing against them. Instead, it should serve as a light-hearted warning to the thousands of one-person attic start-ups with a cracked version of Photoshop and little-to-no design experience that they might consider thinking twice before giving themselves a title normally associated with an industry expert with 8 years experience.

I've also written an article about using the term "Freelance" in your job title. Those of you who haven't yet called me a c*nt might find it interesting.

We have some prize winners in our place:

Vice-President of International Business Development

reads like this on the biz card:

VP of Intl. Business Development

What a wank wank title! 2 guys with that one. And there is no President! They argued that folk from the US take you more seriously if they think you're higher up on the ladder in the organisation.
We joked about the Master of the Universe title at work before.
