Business license help (legal stuff etc)

Hello everyone!

I have been looking for a nice web design for dedicated to purely web design, but also the business side! So thanks to designersTalk I can get the advice I really need.

Okay, I am going to explain my situation, and what I plan on going with my business. I am 17 and still in school, but I have been a designer/programer for about 2 years, but I havent done it "professionally" or for money until about 4 months ago. Ever since I have been doing it I have been making a nice living with it. I am still in school, and I have one more year until I graduate. So I do not have any license or even paying taxes (dont tell anyone ) from my business. I am the only person working for me. However, I have been contracted by two companies to do outsourcing for them. So when I turn 18 I would like to actually do this legally, and pay taxes. So I can get the taxes breaks, and write offs or whatever with equipment like desks, and stuff. Also not to go to jail, hehe.

I am not taking my own business (iMousesstudios) full time or any employees until I move out next year. I plan on using the few months of this year, and next year of living for "free" to get the things I need for my apartment (couchs, desk, tv, etc etc) So when I take my business full time I wont need to spend my money on a new computer, becasue I would need to pay for food, and rent.

So now to the main question. I do not mind paying the $1,000 it costs for the nice desk, and so forth, but I have heard that if I had a business license I could get tax breaks or write offs (?) and I could get the money back from purchases like desk, home office type things.

Bottom line questions;

- Do you need a business license to be a webdesigner/programmer (legally?)
- What age do you need to be to get a business license (18?)
- What are the major benefits of having the license?
- Is it possible to get one without having a high school depolma?
- If one doesnt need a business license to work, what is required? (legally)
- What are all the write-offs/breaks that can be refunded? (if anything)
- If a company(me) was making about $2,000 to $4,000 a month what would my taxes be at the end of the month?
- For taxes, is it monthly? annually?

- Any adivce for a person planing to take the business full time?

My plan for the full time business is hiring two to three for each section: designers, programmers, marketing people, and hosting. I know when I get a business I will need to register for a different kind because of the number of personall. I plan on being the big boss, but also being the head designer. So take on both jobs. I dont know how bosses usually take commission for each package, but I plan on getting a fair amount. For example a small package for like $250, for a simple site. $100 for designer, $100 for programmer, and $50 for me. Is that fair?

So yeah..sorry for the long post, but any help would be really great! I plan on making this forum one of my homes on the net hehe.

Thanks for your time!

Contact the CAB or local chamber of commerce (or US equivalent) - they lend free advice to people wanting to start a business.

Your questions are probably too broad many to get an informed response here just yet. Unless you catch a very bored member

I would recommend going on a small business course - I would not recommend creating a businesss model based on forum advice (especially some of this lot).
Also most of those questions would be better off bieng answered by an accountant - which i also recommend you get
