Freelancers: office and secretary issues when working as Limited Company

I have two questions for you guys:
- Where are you working? At home or in your office? And why.
- Who is your secretary? Is he/she really nessesary physically? Or maybe you do all the stuff and give the papers to sign to him/her.

Cheers.

are you talking about the company secretary that is part of the legal requirements?

if so, they don't have to answer your phone or open your letters.

i think you need help beyond that available on this forum.

Exactly about that secretary. I heard that freelancers like to chose a partner or a parent as company secretary because he's/she's necessary just from time to time.

I'm waiting for some books from lawpack.co.uk about starting LTD company but I just thought there is someone with LTD company here.

BTW: Any advice with good accountants companies? I'll need someone soon.

A company secretary also holds a lot of responsibility if anything goes tits up - its down to them to check that the accounts are filed on time etc...

if there's just one of you, then there's no real advantage to registering a limited company. In fact, it will create a whole load more paperwork and obligations to deal with. Just be a sole trader and stick 25% of what you earn into a high interest account to pay taxes and stuff at the end of the year.

I asked about secretary for _Limited Company_. Not for advice what I should do.

I'm going to be a freelancer/contractor and if you're working _only_ for someone 40h/week for few weeks as sole-trader (self-employed) you should be employed by that company. Simple British law.

I'm going to work for one of the most famous recruitment agency in London. LTD company is a must. I'll pay for accountant so everything will be filled on time.

Why don't you just ask your accountant? Cock.

if that's the case, then why didn't you just say you were a contractor? sign up for an umbrella company like http://www.sjdaccountancy.com/about/...companies.html . they'l take care of everything, and probably save you loads of money for a negligible percentage.

Don't know why I bothered though.

Oh right, seems like you've got the secretary stuff sorted. Good luck to you then.

Cheers pedge. I'm worried about all that. I thought I could work as sole-trader (everything could be much simpler) but the money will be hopefully much better and own company is a good motivation to hard work .

Cheers guys.

used these guys a while ago - you get a ltd co, secretary, banking, management etc...

I used to just ring them and say "i've done 50 hours at my standard rate" and 2 weeks later my net pay would be in my bank account. nothing else for me to do

LTD is much better than sole prop as your liabilities are, literally, limited if things go wrong (heaven forbid). If you get into probs as a sole prop, your personal assets are at risk (and potential bankruptcy)...
