One year in the firm

Right, today it's one year I've been with this firm, and two years in the work field.

Looking back, it seems kind of a long road. When I got hired here, I knew nothing about print, and used shitty code for my designs. (Before that I worked as a copywriter for a French firm, then managed to join the design team.) Now I know a little more about print (still got tons to learn), kind of got familiar with graphic design, and my web design skills are better. Not bad for a year's work I reckon. I know there are many things that need to be learned, but I'll just have to wait and see.

On the other hand, while the first year I took huge leaps in terms of job position and revenue, this last year has been a straight line from start to finish. Can't complain though, I just hope they'd ok my request for a company car, and I have to say I'll be satisfied enough to last another year.

How far have you come this year? What do you know now and didn't know then? What have you accopmlished? How's your morale?

Learned Flash and actionscript 2.0 to a good standard and discovered Vray for Max. Currently studying CSS SQL and PHP to get my web capabilities up to a better level. Oh yeah and I quit my job that I've been in for the last 6 years to go freelance and I've just sold my house to relocate back to Scotland.

Pretty quiet year really

This time last year I was struggling to figure out how the velcro worked on my shoes. And now I can tie my laces in the blink of an eye!

Discovered forum design, resellers and PHP. Learnt that I am not as fit as I used to be, that some muslims are more than misguided and that Newcastle United are rich losers, not just losers.

Have learnt very little about anything, other than I think I want a career and lifestyle change..

Probably won't happen.

this time last year had just started using css for positioning, worked for a shit company (my first in web design), for shit wages (15g - I needed the experience), had to coerce them into designing to web standards, didnt care about their customers, used pirate software for everything, used illegally downloaded images from Getty for everything. Got fired from company this year, had a fairly depressing month looking for new job, had to cancel family holiday, realised just how completely different my previous company was to everything else out there, realised how glad I was to be away from (most of) the people I was working with, found a new job freelancing earning more money than previous and being my own boss. And had a baby girl (see avatar)...
Yeah, its been a blast!

I've been in the IT Division - Data Center Services - at Oklahoma State University for 1 year on Friday.

I'm looking forward to actually being able to get a web design related job in the near-ish future.
