work experience does sound like a huge pro to the Leeds university course.
I really am fascinated by contemporary Graphic Design's often high aesthetic, especially colour and composition (loving avante garde fashion magazines design).
And I'm a keen illustrator
...so still unsure if this is going to be supressed on such an academic and idea based course.
