I'm sure you'll find that in the contract you signed up to for the hosting you waived them any responsibility as far as lost files go. Servers break. You should insure yourself against this with back ups. It's that simple.
Granted something seems to have gone catastrophically wrong at AD, and their customer service may leave more than a little to be desired if they have still not contacted you about the problems they've had. But no matter what you should have back ups of your info.
