They can't. There are many types, some work better than others but most can be overcome. Incidentally, many copy protected disks are not actually classed as CDs as they dont comply with the Red book standard (

I've not had any problems copying apparently protected cd on my mac, i'd certainly take the disk back to the shop if I did though. Blah, blah principles...etc
