One of the most used typeface terms is the Serif.
It can be explained as a line that crosses the end of a main character stroke.
People who know little abouit typefaces, would probably say “the curly bits at the ends of letters“, wich is also right.
Fonts with characters that have serifs, are called Serif fonts. Fonts who don’t have serifs Sans-serif.
