You've got some very rookie mistakes that you should work out. Use text for links, not images, and have some standard navigation from page to page so people can get around a bit easier. On the about / portfolio page you've got something called 'mixed meat navigation' where you are using box images as your navigation, but they are not obvious as to what they are.
Also 'This website is best viewed on a 1280 x 1024 screen setting'... doesn't matter what size the screen is, your site is a big black box. Your background is a 900 x 900 image, so why 1280 x 1024? Days of saying 'Best viewed in blah' are over and done with.
You've got a long road ahead of you, but it can be very exciting. Keep it up, don't let us jaded professionals get you down.

Hiya cjgraphix
thanks for your message, i know i can't just jump in to web design as its gonna take years to learn everything so i'm just taking small steps and learning as i go and offering customers the skills i've already learnt at good prices.
I didn't realise you shouldn't use images as links, i'll look in to that and sort it, as for the navigation i thought it would be ok with the images linking the pages down the left hand side and on the footer as text as well .. i will look in to this too.
I have deliberately made the images on the portfolio not obvious that there buttons at the moment as i still need to write the text descriptions and add more work but when its completed i will make sure people know you can click on them.
I wrote about the screen setting as when i view the website on my laptop it cuts some of the text off and moves everything around a bit, i thought this was because my laptop only displays up to 1088 by 612 pixels and my main computer is set to display at 1280 by 1024 .. if this isn't the case can you tell me why my laptop does this as i have no idea!!
I have got a long road ahead of me whick looks like its gonna be kinda bumpy most of the way but i'm traveling down it with a big smile on my face and the willingness to learn whatever i can however i can, i just wish i started learning it years ago instead of being stuck in a stuffy graphics office!!
anyway thanks a lot for your comments, there very much appriciated
