I don't normally do work on the side (for money), but the opportunity has just come along to do a logo for a company that is sponsoring an upcoming event.
Thing is that I don't have time to dedicate to it during work hours (that's for DT posting

), so I told our marketing person to tell him I can do it on my own time for a fee (no price given). That little voice inside me is already shouting at me to proceed with caution. He's a close business partner of my boss. Should I let my boss know that I'm going to do this so I won't have problems later?
I know I should ask him a few questions first about his company to not look like a gold digger (though I could do with the extra cash). It will make my life a hell of a lot easier making a proper logo for him as the logo he provided was no good (and it's not that other one I showed in the bad logos thread).
Should I ask for €1,000,000 for the job with half as a deposit?
Seriously though. I've no idea how much to charge for a logo. Any tips appreciated. Should I prepare some sort of contract so I don't get burned? Any one got a template that won't scare the bejaysus out of him?
Thanks.
And sorry for the long post (I guess I could have made his logo by now).
