paint.net is pretty good, for a free image editing tool.
I use it sometimes when I dont want to open up photoshop and just resize an image or crop one.
Out of the three new ideas, I prefer the second one. But I agree with Maerk on the idea to have it be just text based.
Color wise, maybe yellow and green ? or green and blue ? those colors seem to be used by certain energy / electric providers.
