Hi, Im sure this has already been asked, but didnt want to search all threads. I have been looking at various (open source) CMS solutions recently and find that its quite a lot of work to get to know one, figure out how it is they implemented everything in order to be able to make the most of it when designing a site.
Personally, for me it seems that using someone elses CMS often limits my possibilities for complex layouts.
It also seems to be a current trend that design agencies and other designers / developpers are using open source CMS and the old build from scratch per customer methods are not as used anymore. I personally prefer building each site from scratch (that is not to say I dont re-use classes, scripts, and other parts already made) than using a premade system and spending time modifiying to suit my needs.
I can see why for financial / time constraints reasons, an existing CMS solution would be preferable, but im convinced that if everything is planned out properly, well organised then even from scratch it shouldnt be a problem to build many sites in the same time it would take using a CMS.
I wanted to get other opinions on the matter, maybe examples of good and bad situations, experiences some of you may have had.
Basically, I want to see how many other developpers / designers out there, still work from scratch, and dont rely on open source CMS's for their work ?
