You should really offer 3/4 drafts to give the client a choice and develop it from there. You've got more chance of him picking one of a selection of ideas - rather than you turning up and hoping he likes just that one.

Have a look around at some logo techniques, in terms of joining letters.
Do some sketches initially - don't waste you time doing the initial draft straight onscreen. I always start with a few sketches to get the brain ticking over. And if i'm stuck for ideas I get the pencil and paper out and doodle away for 15 mins, then back to the screen to make the ideas come alive! Sometimes you'll stumble across an idea by chance. Try a different colour for the icon and a different colour for the text.
