Managed means your supplier looks after the hardware and the software to ensure the server is running and doing what you want it to. So if you need something installing or updating but don't have knowledge of Linux, then you just submit a ticket and they do it for you.
Unmanaged means your supplier looks after the hardware, but the software is up to you, which can be quite a daunting task to someone who has never done it before.
Generally companies would rather pay £200+ extra a month instead of employing someone to look after the server for them.
