are you working on a decent monitor?TFT's have a matte surface as far as I remember...

besides, if you are a designer - you should always fight for your right to be in a 'dark' corner

I always complained (backed up with reasonable arguments!) to my previous boss... they usually care

you could also get anti-glare screen for your monitor - but it will darken all the colours slightly - and they are expenssive from 17" and up.

might be a silly suggestion... but you could also surround yourself with dark-ish posters - decorate the walls with something that would kill the light...
