well... me being a code spastic... after inspecting the code behind the styleboost scrollies - I figured out, that shifting x amount pixels is what I need - I need a snapping effect - just a 'loose' scroll will be a compromise.
if you have a look at the mockup, you'll understand (I hope)

when you click on the arrows the content of the category (incl. the arrows nav) would scroll up/down revealing the next set.
I think the styleboost way might be the best solution... even though it would be a miracle if I can pull it off codewise
