I have a few domains belonging to a number of friends which I've registered in my name, just because it was a quicker and easier at the time, and they're never going to know the difference between a nameserver and a cheese sandwich. But if one of them asked me to hand it over, I'd do it in a flash. Before you get all Mr. Angry about it, why not actually approach the guy. He might have just been doing you a favour.
