My girlfriend has a D50. Advice when buying a D50, go for the body only and a Sigma 18 - 50mm F2.8 EX DC instead of the kit lens. It'll cost you more but you'll have a much much better lens with f/2.8 throughout the focal length of the lens.
On the other hand I've been very happy with my D70s
