I think the text needs to be darker. Try #003366 or something similar. Also add some more colour.
Get rid of the Google and Photo banner and make a good appealing banner for your company/yourself. The D4 INTERACTIVE logo at the top right could really make a nice banner.
For the record, I love CSS but agree that just because a site's done in CSS doesn't make it the Bee's knees. CSS should be viewed as a good design aid that produces well seperated presentation and code - you know the rest of that story. It takes skill to make a site look good whatever you use.
